Elective Posting

Finally, i finished my elective posting in HTAR yesterday. i have been waiting for this since i entered into O&G. The entire posting were about 5 weeks. For the first two-and-a-half-week, it was medicine while the second one was O&G. Frankly, i enjoyed medicine far more than the latter as i'd really learned and seen lots of interesting and rare cases during the short period. Perhaps it was due to the policy of the O&G department in this hospital, i could only observed procedures here but conducting procedures like conducting delivery and episiotomy repair was a big no-no to me. It was rather disappointing. Anyway, i still enjoyed myself here as this was the only place that i found godly attitude from the nurses towards the mothers so far. I was kind of shocked to see nurses congratulate mothers after they gave birth to their newborns in government hospital :)

Famous Ampang Yong Tau Foo and Pan Mee:>

Ha, Ampang yong tau foo is quite a famous food there but personally...i don't find them special. Min took this picture ( a plate of fried 'wan tan' and 'fu chok') when I took Min and her coursemate, Joshua to have a taste of Yong Tau Foo for their first time.

Here is another plate of yong tau foo in soup. We have stuffed brinjals, chilies, ladies fingers, soft taufu, taufu pok and fishball (at far end-just visible). Guess what, we had second round of lunch on the same day because Joshua and I are big eater :> No...actually they don't serve rice on that day...so three of us not feeling full yet.

Here is the menu for our second round. I like tasty pan mee. The stall is located near the yong tau foo place. Min and Joshua do like the taste of this dried pan mee like I do.
Hurray pan mee!!
Frankly i think Ampang should be known famous for pan mee and not yong tau foo. Agree?

Our Dinner in Eiffel Tower

It's dinner time, and we continued hunting again! There are quite a number of pan mee restaurant in Cheras but Vince brought me here -- Eiffel Tower (Ha, don't be disappointed, this is not the one in Paris). Guess he must have his reason so i didn't ask much. We ordered 2 pan mee (mee hun kuey to be specific) of different flavour.

One of them was fried mee hun kuey with sambal udang. This was the first time i learned that this traditional hokkien pasta can also be fried. I like this very much as it was different from the rest, slightly spicy but yet not to the extend that was unbearable. As the aroma of the sambal udang blended into the pasta so readily, you won't feel as if you were eating the flour. :)

Another was mee hun kuey in fish and seaweed soup. The soup was different from the ordinary soup which is usually cooked with anchiovies. But yet, i still prefered the former one to this. Perhaps because i was too obssessed by the prawns in the previous pasta :)

Apart from the pan mee, we also ordered the restaurant owner's recommendation as our side dish. These cute little pumpkin were actually special fried fish ball coated with melon seeds. They were crispy outside and yet tender inside. Really worth a try!

And last but not least, here comes my soursop smoothie after sweating profusely eating the hot stuff. Tell you a secret, i could really hit onto the fresh soursop everytime i scooped the ice into my mouth :)

My Favourite Fish Ball Vermicelli

This is the first day of our mission-- hunting for simple and yet popular food in Cheras! Initially it supposed to be special Hakka Lou Shu Fun Mee but we changed our mind last minute as it was full house there. So, we decided to give this a try -- fish ball vermicelli. I personally like fish ball soup very much but most of the fish ball soups which i tried were just average for me. But to my surprise, this is different! Though it might look dull, this homemade fish ball was really springy! (angang, it was really Q!)
