Teko

It's been really for quite some time i last wrote somtheing over here.. Just finished my last case write-up, but don't feel like reading though exam is around the corner, so stop by here...

This photo had been taken for quite some time ago when i went over my friend's place to practise physical examination just before exam. Well, its name is 'Teko', meaning dog's lice in Iban. It's given this name coz according to my friend, it looked like one (flat). Anyway, i've never seen any myself but if it would be just like this lovely 'Teko', it would be exciting coz whenever i look at it, i'll smile. As if it is smiling to me all the time... =)

Hari Raya Haji = CPR

I m late to ward today...supposely going to ward to clerk patient for seminar and for tuesday's ward round in the morning but end up sleeping soundly till 2pm (woke up and sleep back of coz). Thus, i clerked a TB case n Ward 6 then i head to my ward (Ward 2) to cover beds, i have 3 beds to cover. Well, after clerking 1 patient, i decided to look into the case note and write down the important notes. At tat time, i was still be able to joke ard with the nurses over the counter. At 3.13pm, a relative of a patient came to talk to the nurse, asking her to see her relative. after the nurse saw the patient, steadily, she said to other nurse, "patient collapse". And she take out the emergency trolley from treatment room, and i too, follow them to the patient. Once i approach the patient, there was no attending dr or houseman, i checked the pulse, listen to the breath sound, auscultate...no pulse, no breathing. Immediately i start chest compression. While the nurse there busy settling up high flow mask, in fact, i donno y they put the mask on the patient as she is not breathing. So, i ask them to put oropharyngeal airway into her mouth, and later they recovered the ambu bag and start bagging. HO comes 2 min later, she ordered to give Atropine, and Adrenaline 1 amp each. And i keep doin the chest compressions...and...i broke 3 ribs, i heard crack sound..3 times. 4 min later, MO on cal came, he said my chest compression technique was soft :(..thus ordered the nurse to do it... The MO order the nurses to give more amp of Atropine and Adrenaline, in the end 6 amp for each drug hav been given, and yet patient has no response. The MO intubate the patient but i think he intubate the stomach more likely as the abdomen getting distended and distended. Hm..Hm...20 min has past, no respiratory effort, no heart beat and pupils are fixed and dilated, she is pronounced dead..at 3.31pm. Then, i cont my work clerking the next patient :)...wat a CPR day...

ABC & Rojak!!

On the Sunday evening before i departed back to KL, min took me to Boon Kai Delights. She was craving for rojak and ABC since Saturday but i was so tired on that day so we postponed to Sunday.
As we arrived, we ordered 2 bowls of ABC!!!

Then, the cucur udang with mixed donno wat...

Lastly, our beloved RoJaK..but...too little ingredients..no prawn crackers:(

Kolo Mee

I am here in Sarawak for nearly 5 years. Still remeber my first meal in Sarawak was a bowl of Kolo Mee... And whenever i have no idea of what to eat, i'll opt for it even till now. Kolo Mee -- one of the Kuching's popular and most available food. As I went through one of the blog, it was stated there Kolo Mee in Siang Siang Corner, Tabuan Jaya is the top second tastiest Kolo Mee in town, so i went and and had a try there with friend and dear dear after church service last Sunday. Well, it turned out to taste good. Different from the rest, it was not that dry and i like it as it was juicy while the noodle was springy! Yummy...

Santubong Trip

Few weeks ago, we made a trip to Santubong. On the way to Santubong Resort, we stopped by entrance of Mount Santubong for hiking...

With my sister- in-law on the suspension bridge nearby a waterfall... We had been trying our best to bend our bodies but still unable to make the waterfall into view...

In our room... in fact, this was the third i was there. The room was clean and tidy with 2 queen sized beds. A very comfortable one with reasonable rate...

While everyone was running to the beach, we made our way up the slope at the back of the beach just to wait for the sunset but unfortunately it was not our day, the clouds obscured it...

While waiting for the sunset, we capture this... the slope was filled with this type of little flowers, what a nice scene..

Although we did not push ourselves up to the top of Mount Santubong, we conquered it from below!! Yes, from the foothill! :>

When we went back to the beach, sun had set, croud had deserted the beach (except for a couple busy posing for their wedding album). So, the beach were ours!! Pls: my bro enjoyed swimming at the far end.

Finally, i'm relieved.....

Since the very first day of my O & G posting, i was worrying of how to complete all my 15 deliveries and 10 episiotomy repairs within 3 weeks. Most of those who went through it and came into contact with the staffs in labour room gave me negative feedback. And after my rotation in maternity, it's my turn for all the procedures in labour room since last week. I do admit that it was not an easy job to "survive" there with a number of unfriendly nurses complicated with the stress to achieve our targets within a certain limit under the competition from a great number of nursing students! But finally, i completed all the targets this early morning after i conducted a 'Syawal baby' (the mother called him so), really thanks God for that. Only God knows that i prayed so hard for the mothers when i helped them to deliver their babies-- praying that it would be a smooth one (not end up with Caesar, vacuum etc), praying that the mothers would have good maternal effort, praying that the fetal heart would be good and a long long list that whoever can name it. Though it was a hard one eg. on-called every 2 days for 24 hours, standing most of the time while TCM patients every half-hourly, scolded by certain nurses when u missed out something (sob...), i really learned a lot within this short period, i learned the proper way of VE & ARM from the doctors, practised setting line onto the newly admitted mothers (my skill rusted since i didn't practise it for quite some time), learned the various methods of episiotomy repair from different nurses (really thanks them), made a few nursing friends etc. Thanks God for everything! Amen.

The Two Bananas

Last few weeks, we had our lunch together in 'The Two Bananas". It's just a few minutes drive away from our faculty.

It offers a great variety of food and drinks prepared with banana.

At the far left is its banana beverage. For those who likes banana, this is a must to try on.

Recommended Banana chicken rice. Mm... For me, it's not that special.

My friend's orange chicken rice. I like it but my friend kept complaining it's too bad.. Well, things can be quite subjective at time ;>

My 'Special Fried Rice'... I think this was the nicest among all! Or maybe it was because i was craving for fried rice last few weeks? ha...

Mooncake Festival is coming!!

Mooncake festival is just around the corner. In fact, there are just 2 more days from today! Dear dear sent me this cute little lantern for it. It's a Pooh's little lantern with music that need to be blown up manually. Ha, the night after my on-call, i found a parcel on my table and it was this little lantern from dear dear. As i was too tired, i fell asleep straight away after i blew it up. It's so cute that i like it so much!!! Thanks dear dear! Happy Mooncake festival!

FINISH EXAM (2)

After a week of waiting, finally the post mortem of the final O&G exam is held, today. To cut the story short, it was a shock, as the coordinator did not announce our results one by one..because she is very disappointed with our results. Although all of us pass the MEQ (1 obs, 1 gynae), there is 25% failure in MCQ. Thw worst thing is, 33% failure in clinical (9 of them fail both obs and gynae short cases and 7 fail 1 short case in either obs or gynae make a total of 16 out of 48). Thus, in the end of the session, the coordonator did not announce the results one by one but just want to see 3 students, who has not doin really well.:( But however, we are very piah you see..most of us see the coordinator again to get our exact results, actually to see if we fail clinical exam coz most of us do badly in clinical exam. Guess what, i pass all, the mcq, meq, and both clinical short cases:). Thanks Lord. And thanks so much dear for praying so hard for me. It is you who held me to go through all this hardness, i really thought i fail my obs short case but thank you for giving me such a hope that i can still survive:(

Pandan Beach

About 20 minutes from Gunung Gading National Park, you'll reach one of the beautiful beach in Lundu--- Pandan Beach!!

From the hut by the seaside, a tranquil sea embracing quite a number of families....

The picturesque view of the beach....

Another end of the beach that's full of rocks...

The muscular sandman.... Haha...

Gunung Gading National Park

After my paediatrics exam last week, i spent a superb weekend in Gunung Gading National Park! Just in case you don't know where it is, it is at the South Borneo, a place called Lundu in Sarawak. Reached there early in the morning in our 'little Black', the name of our Savvy my sister-in law gave, we were fortunate enough to get a room as the rest of them were all fully booked!!

Corridor leading into our room... For your information, the room was only RM40 with 2 double-decker in it!! Surprising right? it's cheap. and at the far end, there were well-equipped kitchen and dining table for you. (In fact, we bought some fresh seafood in the town which was only about 10 minutes away and made our dinner here.)

Yes, this was our room, Room 2!!!

Posing with my sister-in law on the double-decker :>

We were lucky enough to find 2 full- bloomed Rafflesia, the world's largest flower though August is not the season for it (the blooming season is from November to January).

A closer look at it, for me, it looked like pizza! ;>

Its interior look....

From the superior posterolateral of it.... Its flower bud was just like a cabbage. And the blooming period for each flower is only 7 days...

Luckily to have seen this once in a blue moon flower, we climbed up the cliff!! To the right of me were 2 of the "cabbages" awaiting for blooming after their 9-month nurturing.

We ordered ourselves some crabs and other type of seafood in Lundu town for our lunch as it is a popular place for seafood :>

FINISH EXAM!!!!

I have finished my o&g exam... it was a terrible exam. Everyone panic throughout the clinical exam days wondering how their examiners want them to perform. Some are ok, many are disappointed. almost 80% thought they have failed at least 1 short case (either gynae or obs). But however, the final results depend on the post mortem which will be held someday the next week. Here, let me share share the short cases for obs which us, students here get for exam. We hav multiple pregnancies (which i get), abnormal lie, breech presentation, and hyperemesis gravidarum (ya!!this is gynae case yet our prof (Prof Emeritus Dr. Adeeb) gave this case s obs exam). For gynae short cases, abd masses, hyperem, miscarriages, and normal abd with no masses or anything (which i get!!). Thus, for gynae, my pat has no mass per abd, and the prof create some scenario for me to see how i answer them. Hm...for further elaboration, pls refer to ur gynae and obs books :)
Well...in the end..im not sad. jus hope for the best.

Lunch on 080808...

My lunch on 080808 was this, Arabian Chicken rice in The Spring. By the end of finishing this plate of rice, i was far too full than i'd have expected.. But it's tasty, just like my favourite Briyani's rice :>

Lavender Champagne Milk Tea to quench my thirst after that, picked by one of us, i like the light lavender flavour..

Pizza Junction

A day before my exam, I had our dinner at Pizza Junction with my brother and sis- in law. This was the second time i went there after 2 years since it started its branch in Jalan Song :>

I personally like this! Kaya and banana! I guess anyone who likes kaya will fall in love with it..

Dumplings

This photo was taken few weeks back -- chinese fried dumpling or 'guo tie'. We had this in one of the hawker stall in Jalan Song after our Sunday service. It's nice and cheap, 10 for RM 5 only!! :>

Exam's Over!

Finally, my Paediatrics posting was overed... So tired after suffering from sleep deprivation for consequtive few days or even weeks...
Mm.. must recharge myself fully before moving on to O & G!

Lao po...

This was forwarded by a friend to me and i'd like to share it with everyone out there....

This is basically the content (ya, i know u can't read it, don't be puzzled...):

Cherish your love one, there is no drug for regret. My wife was like a little tail, she would follow wherever i go, but this little tail disappeared in that rainy night for good. I was so regretful that i couldn't forgive myself. On the day of our wedding, lao po used the money meant for the ring to buy me a handphone. Since then, i'd always received her calls like "lao kong, get some vege back after your work", "lao kong, i miss you, i love you" etc. It was so heart-warming. There was one time when i forgot to recharge my battery and coincidentally I'd work to do and only late in the night that i reached home. Once opened the door, lao po's eyes were already swollen up. She cried as she thought something bad happened to me since she could not reach me. From then onwards, I'd never failed to recharge my battery. Later on, I was promoted, I'd more money and changed my phone for few times. I bought her a handphone after she refused the diamond ring that i owed her. then, we started to message each other frequently. One rainy night, i stayed over to gamble at one of my friend's place. Then i received her call again, "where are you now, why not home yet?", "i'm gambling at my friend's place", "when are you coming back?", "a little while after this". Not long after that, she called up again, "where are you right now? why hasn't back yet?", "how am i going back in such a heavy downpour?!", "then where are you, i'll fetch you instead". Being teased by friends, i was so annoyeyed, "no need!" and switched my phone off. The next morning, when i got back home, lao po was not there. A call from my mother-in law told me that lao po passed away in an accident as she was looking for me from one place to another with an umbrella while cycling in the rain the night before. I switched on my phone only did i realzed there was an unread message from her, "don't u remember, today is our anniversary, don't go away, i'm coming to you with an umbrella". She had never wake up again, out of sudden, i felt that i lost the whole world on that night. Lao po had left me for 3 months but i am still not able to wake up from my nightmare..
Hopefully all of us would get something out of this story...

Heartbroken...

After coming out from my shower last night, the cross on my necklace fell onto my hand when i touched it. Initially i thought the necklace was not fastened properly, then only i found out it had broken off! My heart was broken away as i realized it was broken off. After all, it was my 18 year-old-birthday present and all 3 of my sisters have this similar piece of necklace...

It had been with me for the past 5 years but now leaving me for good... mm.. Gonna call mama up..

Layer Cake...

Layer cake alone is nothing so special but this is special to me. U must be wondering why. Well, this is the reason -- it was brought all the way back from Jakarta by a friend of mine to me. I must say she had had a nightmare that i definitely won't be able to handle myself if i were her over there though her stay over there were just in fact, a couple of days! But yet, despite what happened to her, here it is, she brought back souvenir for me.. I was so touched that i nearly cry out when she presented this to me... It was really beyond my expectation! Friend, thanks so much! Love you so much! Thanks God you're back safe and sound!

p/s: my sister- in law loves this cake!

HPV Vaccination against Cervical Cancer but...

Cervical cancer is the second commonest cancer among the females worldwidely as well as in Malaysia. It mostly affects women of the age between 35 to 55 years old though ladies other than this age group can be affected as well. But not every lady out there suffer from it. Only those who are at high risk, to name a few eg. first sexual intercourse at an early age, multiple sexual partners or sex activity with partner who's promiscuous etc are especially vulnerable to it as cervical cancer is highly associated with Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which is transmitted readily through genital contact most of the time though not all of the time.
Having said so, not all of the HPV can lead to cervical cancer. Only a few like HPV type 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51 out of hundred over types of recognized HPV is associated with cervical cancer. So, Malaysian Ministry of Health has come out with a circular to screen all the ladies who are sexually active yearly (if 2 normal consequent results are obtained, then every 3 years) via Pap smear in order to detect subtle changes in cervical cells before it progress to precancerous or cancerous so that cervical cancer can be prevented.
This is the most effective way in preventing cervical cancer until June 2006, when US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Gardasil, a quadrivalent HPV vaccination against HPV 6, 11, 16 & 18 (Cervarix, a bivarent HPV vaccination against HPV 16 & 18, though already available in certain country but is still being assessed by US FDA) . It has showed that females between 9 and 26 years old can be benefited from these vaccination. Therefore, everyone is running into their embrace since their introduction.
However, while we are overwhelmed by the advantage, according to Daily News from Medscape on July 26, 2008 which i came across few days ago, serious neurologic like Guillain-Barré syndrome , thromboembolic, and autoimmune complications have been reported in patients who received human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines. Although not the norm, Dr.Diane Harper, MD, from the Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire, a principal investigator of clinical HPV vaccine trials for both Merck (Gardasil) and GlaxoSmithKline (Cervarix) suggests that the events are grave enough to encourage caution. According to the US FDA on June 30, 2008 also, more than 9700 adverse events have been reported since the vaccine was approved 2 years ago. Of these, 94% were nonserious (fainting, pain at the injection site, headache, nausea, and fever) and the remaining 6% was severe.
So, whether to be vaccinated to prevent cervical cancer, it is subjective. From my point of view, even if we are vaccinated (i mean ladies), we still stand a chance to have cervical cancer as the vaccine available is not against all the types of HPV. What is the utmost important prevention is still the basic -- to practise healthy sex hygiene while undergoing Pap smear from time to time.

My Love Will Get You Home

My Love Will Get Y...

Couple of days ago, my friend crooned this song to me, My Love Will Get You Home by Christine Glass, one of her favourite song. Soon after the next day, she passed me the song with the lyrics. Listening to this song, my heart was melting away... This is such a soothing one. From the lyrics, i guessed this must be a song from a mother to her son as the word "boy" is used.. Having said so, i'd like to dedicate this to my 'boy boy', hope he'll like it... My love will get you home..

If you wander off too far, my love will get you home.

If you follow the wrong star, my love will get you home.

If you ever find yourself, lost and all alone, get back on your feet and think of me, my love will get you home, boy, my love will get you home.

If the bright lights blind your eyes, my love will get you home.

If your troubles break your stride, my love will get you home.

If you ever find yourself, lost and all alone, get back on your feet and think of me, my love will get you home, boy, my love will get you home.

If you ever feel ashamed, my love will get you home.

When there's only you to blame, my love will get you home.

If you ever find yourself, lost and all alone, get back on your feet and think of me, my love will get you home, boy, my love will get you home.

If you ever find yourself, lost and all alone, get back on your feet and think of me, my love will get you home, boy, my love will get you home, boy, my love will get you home.

2nd Home Eatery

We had our lunch in 2nd Home Eatery after aborted our greenbento catering yesterday.

My special fried rice with curry chicken. I think this was the tastiest among the all. RM6.

This fried Mamak Mee was too spicy, think would be nicer if it was not that hot.

My friend's sliced ginger chicken rice, i don't quite like it though, not quite appealing to me perhaps it's too dark. :)

Heavenly Melody

Last weekend, the popular Taiwanese Christian choir, Heavenly Melody was in the town. So, on the night of Sunday, my friend and I decided to go and had a live experience ourselves. It was held in Trinity Church in Ellis Road, Kuching. Though i've heard of this church since my first year, this was the very first time i stepped into it, praise God for the great building!

By the time we reached, there were already so many people in the hall that we could no longer enter into it. What left were a few chairs outside the entrance. :( ha, luckily i brought along my glasses, distance was not a problem for me, ha..

Though had to stand for most of the time, i enjoyed myself with most of the songs and hymns sang! Praise God, Hallelujah!

Trinity Book Room of Trinity Church. Bought something here before we left making quite a number of cars waiting for us as our car blocked their way out, so sorry...
